NOL Pay App 2026 — Download, NFC Balance Check, Top-Up & Full Guide
The NOL Pay app is the official Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) mobile application for managing your NOL card in Dubai. It lets you check your balance via NFC, top up from anywhere, buy travel passes, register your card, and report it lost — all without visiting a metro station.
What Is the NOL Pay App?
The NOL Pay app is the dedicated card management tool published by RTA Dubai. It was officially launched in July 2023 and has been updated continuously since, with the most recent update released on April 27, 2026.

Unlike the broader RTA Dubai app — which covers Salik, traffic fines, parking, and bus tracking — NOL Pay focuses entirely on your NOL card: balance, top-up, transaction history, travel passes, card registration, and card protection. If your daily concern is the metro, bus, or tram, this is the app you want on your phone.
NOL Pay App vs RTA Dubai App — Which One Do You Need?
This is the most common confusion among Dubai commuters. There are two official RTA apps, and they serve different purposes.
| Feature | NOL Pay App | RTA Dubai App |
|---|---|---|
| NOL balance check via NFC | ✓ | ✗ |
| NOL card top-up | ✓ | ✓ |
| Transaction history (last 20 trips) | ✓ | Partial |
| Register / link NOL card | ✓ | ✓ |
| Report lost or damaged card | ✓ | ✗ |
| Travel pass purchase | ✓ | ✗ |
| Family card management | ✓ | ✗ |
| Salik balance check | ✗ | ✓ |
| Traffic fines | ✗ | ✓ |
| Parking services | ✗ | ✓ |
| Bus live tracking | ✗ | ✓ |
For NFC balance checks, travel passes, and card protection, NOL Pay is the right choice. For Salik, fines, and parking alongside NOL services, the RTA Dubai app covers everything. Many daily commuters keep both installed — they do different jobs.
How to Download NOL Pay (iOS, Android)
The app is free on all three platforms:
After downloading, open the app. You can log in using your UAE Pass (recommended for UAE residents) or a separate nol ID — an email and password registered at nolpay.ae. UAE Pass login is faster and ties directly to your Emirates ID.
One thing worth knowing: you do not need to log in at all to run a quick NFC balance check. The “Check Card Info” option on the home screen works without an account.
How to Check Your NOL Balance via NFC
This is the fastest balance check available — no Tag ID to type, no browser to open, no waiting for a page to load. The app reads directly from your card’s chip in about 3 seconds.
Step 1 — Enable NFC on your phone
Go to Settings → Connections → NFC and toggle it on. On iPhone, NFC activates automatically when the app requests it — no manual step needed.
Step 2 — Open NOL Pay and tap “Check Card Info”
This button appears on the main screen the moment the app opens. No login required.
Step 3 — Hold your NOL card to the back of your phone
Place the card flat against the upper-back of the phone and hold it steady for 2–3 seconds until you feel a vibration or the screen updates.
Step 4 — Read your results
The app shows your current balance in AED, any pending credit waiting to be activated, your card’s expiry date, and your last 10 transactions. This is more detailed than what the RTA website shows without logging in.
Tip: If the scan fails on the first try, shift the card slightly up or down. NFC antenna positions vary by phone model — what works on a Samsung S25 sits about 2 cm higher than on a Huawei Mate.
How to Top Up via NOL Pay
You can add credit to your NOL card from anywhere — home, office, or even mid-commute — without going to a vending machine.
Step 1: Log in to your account (top-up requires a linked account).
Step 2: Select your card → tap “Top Up” → enter the amount. Minimum top-up is AED 5.
Step 3: Pay via Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay, Apple Pay, or Google Pay.
Step 4 — The activation step most people miss: Online top-ups are not instant. The credit arrives as “Pending” in your app and takes 45 minutes to 4 hours to process. Once processed, tap your physical card at any metro gate, bus reader, or solar top-up machine. That tap writes the pending amount onto your card chip. Until that tap, the credit exists in the system but not on the card.
For the full range of top-up methods including vending machines and retail stores, see our NOL card recharge guide.
How to Buy and Activate a Travel Pass
Instead of paying per trip, you can purchase a travel pass directly inside the app — useful for daily commuters who ride across multiple zones.
Go to “Buy Product” from the main menu → choose your pass type and duration:
- Silver 30-day pass (1 zone) — AED 140
- Silver 30-day pass (2 zones) — AED 230
- Silver 30-day pass (all zones) — AED 350
7-day, 90-day, and annual passes are also available. After paying, the pass sits as “pending” until you tap your NOL card at a metro gate to activate it. Travel is only covered after that first activation tap.
Full pricing across all pass types and zones is in our NOL card monthly pass guide.
How to Register or Link Your NOL Card
An unregistered Silver or Gold card has zero balance protection if lost. Linking it to your account takes about 30 seconds and protects everything on it.
In the app: My Cards → Add Card → enter your 10-digit NOL Tag ID (printed on the back of the card) → follow the on-screen verification steps. For Blue card registration, you will need your Emirates ID number.
Once linked, your card appears under “My Cards” permanently. You can check its balance, view transaction history, and protect it going forward — all from the same screen.
How to Report a Lost or Damaged Card
Step 1: Log in → My Cards → select the affected card.
Step 2: Tap “Report Lost / Damaged.”
Step 3: The card is blocked immediately. No further spending is possible on it.
Step 4: Choose to transfer the remaining balance to a new card or request a refund. Standard processing takes 4 working days.
This only works for registered or linked cards. Anonymous Silver and Gold cards with no account link cannot be recovered through the app. If your card was unregistered, visit an RTA Customer Happiness Centre in person. Full details are in our lost and stolen NOL card guide.
iPhone vs Samsung — Key Difference You Must Know
This is the one thing most guides either skip or explain poorly.
Samsung Galaxy users can fully digitize their NOL card through the NOL Pay app into Samsung Wallet. Once digitized, the physical card is permanently deactivated and your phone becomes your transit card — tap your Samsung at the metro gate just like a physical card. See our Samsung Wallet guide for the step-by-step setup.
iPhone users get full access to every management feature in NOL Pay: NFC balance check, top-up, transaction history, card registration, travel pass purchase, and lost card reporting. But as of April 2026, iPhone cannot be tapped at metro gates. The NOL card is not available in Apple Wallet as a transit payment method — no confirmed RTA timeline exists for this. iPhone users must keep a physical NOL card for gate entry.
Our Apple Wallet and NOL card guide covers the practical options available to iPhone users in the meantime.
Family Card Management
A feature most commuters don’t know exists: you can link and manage family members’ NOL cards from your single account. Top up a spouse’s card remotely, check a child’s balance before they head to school, or monitor a student’s travel history — all under My Cards → Add Family Card.
This pairs well with the student NOL card. If your child uses a Student NOL Card, linking it to your account means you can top it up any time without handing them a physical card or cash.
NOL Pay Troubleshooting
NFC scan keeps failing
Toggle NFC off and back on in Settings. On Samsung and Huawei devices, major software updates occasionally reset NFC behaviour — a restart after toggling usually fixes it. Try holding the card in a different position: upper-back versus middle-back of the phone.
“Loading timed out” on app launch
This is a server-side issue on RTA’s end. Force-close the app, wait 2–3 minutes, and try again. If it persists, use the RTA website directly for a balance check in the meantime and try the app again in an hour.
Top-up paid but balance not showing
The credit is sitting as Pending. Tap your physical card at any metro gate, parking meter, or solar top-up machine. That tap activates the credit from the system onto your card chip. If it still hasn’t reflected after 4 hours and a gate tap, call RTA at 800 90 90.
Can’t log in with UAE Pass
Ensure the UAE Pass app is installed and active on the same device. If UAE Pass is logged in on another phone, that can block the link. Try logging in with your nol ID (email and password) as a fallback while you sort the UAE Pass issue.
Tips for Using NOL Pay Effectively
Keep at least AED 15 on your card for a round trip. The absolute minimum to board is AED 7.50 — but that only covers a one-way trip. Running out mid-commute means a queue at the vending machine. More details at our NOL card minimum balance guide.
Use the NFC check without logging in every morning. It takes 4 seconds from opening the app to seeing your balance. No passwords, no loading screens. This is genuinely faster than any other method.
Top up the evening before, not the morning of. Online top-ups take up to 4 hours to activate. Top up the night before so the credit is ready the next morning after your first gate tap.
Turn on balance alert notifications. NOL Pay can notify you when your balance drops below a threshold you set. Enable this in app Settings → Notifications so you never get caught at the gate.
Register your card the same day you buy it. Anonymous Silver cards are non-recoverable if lost. Linking takes 30 seconds and gives you full balance protection from that moment forward.
Check your card expiry in the NFC scan. Cards are valid for 5 years. The expiry date appears every time you do an NFC check — glance at it once a month. See our NOL card expiry check guide if yours is approaching.
